How to see your abs:

A question I get asked a lot is “what is the best exercise for my abs”. What I assume they mean is how do I get my abdominal muscles more visible.

Your abdominals are just like any other muscle, you train them for the muscle to stick around and get stronger, you cannot expect your arms or legs to keep their shape if you do not train them.

So, number one is to train your abs with weighted exercises and bodyweight exercises.

Weighted examples: Russian twist, Weighted sit ups, Oblique twists

Bodyweight examples: Crunches, Leg raises, Plank

Training your abdominals will give you the muscle, now you start need to have the muscles visible for you (and Instagram) to see.


Number two, the way you do that is to simply decrease the layer of body fat between the muscle and your skin. How do you drop body fat? – through a deficit of calories. --> https://www.jetraining.co.uk/post/the-perfect-calorie-deficit

You could have the strongest core or the best abdominals but if your body fat is not low enough you will not be able to see them.


Is it realistic to expect your abs on show all year round, perhaps not, hence why people make more of an effort in the summer when they know they are going on holiday with little clothes on.

In short, there is no secret exercise that is superior, it is just a simple case of training your abdominals and having a low enough body fat to be able to see them.
