· Since 1975 obesity rates have tripled.

· Over 1.9 billion adults are overweight.

· 650 million adults are obese.

· Globally, 41 million children are overweight.

Why are schools not educating students about food? I am not saying schools should be ran like bootcamps with burpees every hour but there is no point in teaching a child how to annotate a poem or work with numbers so they can become an accountant if they are going to be dead before they finish paying off their student loan. That sounds horrible, but the scary fact is that obesity kills and does not care if you are male, female, young or old!

I am not communicating that everyone should make a choice between health or income, because you can certainly have both. From what I am aware physical activity or PE in schools is being pushed less and less. But would it be impossible for schools to find 1 hour a week for an education class on food and exercise. They could perhaps teach what happens to your arteries after years of eating processed foods and the importance of moving every day.

Imagine years down the line that obesity levels have been dramatically slashed because children and adults understand the balance between consuming food and exercising/moving. Parents and children are cooking together from scratch with whole foods and then they go for a family walk. Fairy tale, no, that is very much achievable through educating adults and children. Nobody chooses or wants to be overweight or obese, I believe it is purely a lack of knowledge on the subject.
